Local SEO Guide’s 2017 Ranking Factors Study

I’ve been back-and-forth with authors Andrew Shotland and Dan Leibson about the circular logic of even reporting the #1 ranking factor at all (which sadly has earned many of the headlines I’ve seen).

A more useful takeaway from this extremely valuable study is just how important reviews are for local rankings — including keywords used in reviews — which resonates with my anecdotal analysis over the last few years.

Despite my personal affinity for Google’s new public liaison Danny Sullivan, the company’s excuse for News Spam is at least as crappy as the results themselves. If a search is actually best served by long-tail content, then just don’t show Google News results at all.
